Any tips for getting over a broken heart through buddhist practice?

Question: “Any tips for getting over a broken heart through buddhist practice?”

I just a read an article a few days ago (I forgot where) about how to deal anxiety or heartache, and it included excerpts and quotes from a few different research studies about expressive writing and how the majority of the participants who actively wrote for a certain amount of time everyday for like a week or something, were able to overcome their obstacles 40% quicker than those who didn’t.

So I would recommend that approach. And on a more “buddhist” side, you can begin my practicing meditation and bringing to the surface your true emotions and feelings. “I’m heartbroken because my boy/girlfriend left me” is not a valid excuse. Continue asking yourself why, why, why until you get to the core of the real reason.

For each approach, expressive writing and meditation, it makes you face yourself and your troubles. You become your own therapist, you are able to open up about yourself to yourself.

Write down the things you are happy about, things you are grateful for. Read this list everyday when you wake up and before you go to bed. Do some volunteering or charity work. Helping others and making others happy is our own happiness and can put some of the biggest smiles on our face!

Don’t be afraid to face your challenges and yourself, otherwise you’ll be mentally, emotionally and spiritually stuck.

Smile and be well!
