The Three Poisons, or the Three Unwholesome Roots, are the main causes of suffering and the reasons that keep sentient beings trapped in Samsara.
1. Greed (Loha): Desire, craving, lust. To overcome greed, learn to cultivate selflessness, generosity, detachment, and contentment.
2. Anger (Sanskrit: Dvesha, Pali: Dosa): Hatred, animosity, ill-will, aversion, hostility. To overcome anger, learn to cultivate loving-kindness, compassion, patience, and forgiveness.
3. Ignorance (Moha): Delusion, wrong understanding, wrong view of reality, misperception of the way the world works. To overcome ignorance/delusion, learn to cultivate wisdom, insight, and right understanding.
