Metta Sutta – Loving-Kindness

This is to be done by one skilled in aims who wants to
break through to the state of peace:
Able, straight forward and upright,
polite, they should be modest and not arrogant

Content and frugal,
with few duties and living lightly,
grounded, and not impulsive;
modest and not chasing status

And not doing the slightest thing
which is denounced by the Wise in others
May they have happiness and peace;
May all beings be happy in themselves

Whatever living beings there are
fearful or fearless – without remainder
large, medium, or small.

Seen or unseen,
Remote or living nearby,
Born or seeking birth:
May all beings be happy in themselves

Let no one deceive another
or despise anyone anywhere,
or through anger or irritation
wish for another to suffer.

As a mother would risk her life
to protect her child, her only child,
even so should one cultivate a limitless heart
with regard to all beings.

With good will for the entire world
cultivate a limitless heart:
In all the directions of space,
unobstructed, peaceable, without enmity

Whether standing, walking,
sitting, or lying down,
as long as one is alert,
one should be resolved on this mindfulness.

This is called a sublime abiding here & now.

Not falling into views,
ethical and with perfect vision
Having given up greed for sensory pleasures,
freed without doubt from birth.
