Question: I want to discover myself on a deeper level, but there are too many internal barriers going on. I don’t know what I believe in, I’m worried about what other people think about me, I constantly evaluate the decisions I make, and I am almost always unsure about anything I decide. It’s a bit frustrating, What should I do?
You know, one of the hardest decisions in my life is trying to figure out what to have for lunch or dinner. I seem to what feels like an eternity trying to make a decision on food, and sometimes when I can’t, I just don’t eat… I cause my own suffering by starving myself.
We all want to discover ourselves a little more than what we or others see superficially. We think we truly know ourselves because, well, it’s us! But we don’t really know what truly hides behind certain closed doors within our mind. And of course evaluating our own decisions and worrying too much about what others think is not helping. I stopped caring what others thought about me along ass time ago and it is oh so freeing!!!
We go through so many phases in life, it’s literally impossible to keep track of what we like and don’t like one day, and it changing two days later. Everyday there’s something new and exciting that pulls us away from what was new and exciting yesterday. It’s a constant battle to even try to keep up. So what to do? Stop trying to keep up! We are human beings, it is a blessing to be born as human. Animals have the capability to also live with physical pleasure, to care for their family, build homes and enjoy sex. So why as humans do we also only achieve what animals can do? Instead, the freedom we can get from letting things go, take things as they come and happen, and look inward for pleasure and happiness instead of external circumstances, then our lives would be at so much more peace and freedom.
Sit down or lie down under your favorite tree or spot outside, or even under your favorite ceiling fan in the house, whatever floats your boat – and ask yourself, “Who am I? What really causes me to suffer? What really brings me joy that isn’t an object or idea? What can I do to free myself?” Ask yourself these kinds of questions everyday until you can discover the true answers.
Smile and be well!
