Quieting the mind

Question: “I have such a big problem quieting my mind and not expecting an outcome during meditation. Do you have any tips on how to help this?”

A lot of people assume that meditation is all about sitting down crossed legged and clearing our mind. It’s not. A “clear mind” is the end result of our practice. There are probably only a small percentage of people in the world who have the gift of a quiet mind. So for us normal people, it’s not about quieting the mind, it’s about observing and making friends with our mind. Knowing how our mind works makes it easier for us to stay aware and focused when distracting thoughts arise.

This article about concentration is a good start for breathing and counting our breath.

You’re not going to gain anything from meditation. Instead, you’re going to lose ignorance, anger and greed.

Smile and be well!
