Karma and Destiny

Question: “Does destiny exist? And what is the real meaning of this world? Because if karma exist then destiny also exists… Could you please explain what is your thought on this topic?”

Karma and destiny are two very different things. There is no “destiny” in Buddhism, because that would mean our lives and our futures are fixed and cannot be changed. That is completely incorrect. Karma is not fixed. Our lives and our future can change with our own efforts and actions.

If “destiny” said your life was meant for failure, all you have to do flip destiny off and go to college! Get a badass degree with a badass job and your life is changed for success and opportunity. No one or thing can tell you what you can or cannot do, or how you should or shouldn’t live. Even the Buddha told his disciples, “Out of respect for me because I am the Buddha, do not take what I say as truth. Instead, take it and apply it to your life – experiment with what works and doesn’t work for you.”

For my own opinion, destiny does not exist. Destiny is just a bully feeding off the power of control.

Smile and be well!
